"We were ’kid-friendly’ before it was cool," smiles Chris Cunningham, president of Augusta-based Wife Saver Restaurants, Inc. "My father believed in creating a wholesome family dining environment when he started this company, and we still believe in his ideals." George Cunningham opened the first Wife Saver Restaurant on Augusta’s Milledgeville Road in 1965.
All eight present-day Wife Saver restaurants, in both Georgia and South Carolina, feature a "Kids Korner" menu and do not serve alcoholic beverages. "Moms, dads and kids seem to feel very comfortable in our restaurants," explains Chris Cunningham. "And that’s just the way we like it."
Wife Saver Restaurants feature a true home-style "Put A Little South in Your Mouth" menu, with award-winning Southern-fried chicken, vegetables, breads, desserts, seafood, and (of course) ice tea. (Wife Saver also offers some of the tastiest roasted chicken around.)
